James Lai, M.D. - Pain Management

Dr. Lai is a board-certified anesthesiologist and has been in the practice of pain management for over ten years. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1990 and completed his residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Academy of Pain Medicine, American Society of Regional Anesthesia, Texas Pain Society and Harris County Medical Society.

Dr. Lai is dedicated to excellence in the treatment of chronic pain conditions. He strives to educate his patients about their pain condition, treatment options and rehabilitation. His goal is to improve the quality of life for his patients and return them to a functional and productive lifestyle.

Dr. Lai was born in Taiwan. At age 13, his family immigrated to Houston. He graduated from Westbury High School in Houston and later received his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese. He is an avid sportsman and enjoys traveling and spending time with his two children.
